Day343
Long walks on
the side streets of Columbia
while pulling Z.
Tyler in his wagon
When
our Catherine Elizabeth came along, money wasn’t just tight, it was
non-existent.
Somehow,
we managed to scrape enough for gas and a few toys and pretties for her.
The
very first “big” item I bought Beth was a red Radio-flier coaster wagon---$20.00!
That
was a tremendous amount of cash for us in those early days; I felt it was
important.
We
rolled the wheels off that 4-wheeled chariot. In our basement apartment we had
a “piece” of carpet on the living room floor. I’d lay Beth’s yellow blanket in
the wagon and put her in it with a pillow under her head; sitting in a rocker,
I’d rock allowing the motion to pull the wagon back and forth bouncing
rhythmically and---Voila…in the blink
of an eye, she’s be fast asleep.
We
still have that old wagon, now painted a light green and Beth has a remnant of
the blanket.
When
Z. Tyler came along, he got a new wagon, also. We used to pull him around town
when he was a baby; on week days, I pulled him to school to meet Lady Candice.
The
Baur-girls got a wagon when they showed up, too. Tradition! I reckon that’s true enough!
Reckon
I sure enough enjoyed “walking”. Especially in the rain; time to
think—and…plan.
Like
I ever made any plans; just “wing-it” Boys and make the very best of whatever
happens.
Doesn’t
cost anything to walk---or sream…or adopt an attitude to satiate precious life.
Hmm!
Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “Wagons! Ho!” Memories!
