Day 268
Ducklings and
Rhode Island Red chicks---
Wow!...did they
ever smell bad! Whew!
Easter
brought out the “Spring”-fever for our little farm-family each year.
As
the sun traversed its path northward and the snow receded to green shoots of
spring-grass, the old tiller got a going over and we plowed up the garden. Lucy
and Ethel, our ewes, delivered lambs for the occasion; foals graced our
presence in that time, also, and we had our share of calves. And, we bought
ducks and chicks at the Il-Mo Hatchery.
Of
course, we got the youngest babies the man had for sale. That meant that we had
to keep the tiny critters in cardboard boxes in the pantry away from drafts and
necessitated a “heat” lamp clamped to the box to keep them warm. The kids loved
having them in the house. They sure enough are cute as a button, especially the
ducks, but, Boy! Are they ever one big mess.
Lady
Candice got the chore of taking care of the new arrivals; she makes everything
look so easy. The girls and I helped---some, I reckon…but, Candy-girl really
saved the day. Always!
No!
We never had any of our “guests” for dinner. Just---more…pets! Hmm! Some farmer!?
I can’t make
every day and adventure if I don’t believe it, myself!
Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “Cheep! Cheep!-Quack!
Quack!” Memories!
