Day 267
Scavenger-hunt
on Christmas for the “little girls”
Ole
Santa Claus seems up to some old tricks, again. Christmas scavenger-hunt. Indeed!
Always
anything to spice up the celebration, whatever that event might be.
When
our girls were little, Santa had a ball from August-time on getting “gifts”
accumulated for the “big” holiday. Some were small in nature, favorite
candy-treats, books, dolls, but, a few, over the years, turned out to be Spectacular! One fine Christmas Eve ole
Santa showed up with a horse trailer. Wide-eyed, the girls smiled and laughed
as a dark bay Morgan filly name of “Midget” was unloaded. The Santa-man sure
knew how to set a kid’s heart a-flutter. I reckon.
When
Z. Tyler and the “new” little girls came along---well…ole Santa kept up the
show.
I
remember one year when Santa took pictures of the tree and the myriad gifts
under, around, in front of and behind and continuing through out the family
room---160+ packages!
Always,
a mountain of colored paper and miles of ribbon grew to a mountain-size. What
fun!
So,
the years file by, Santa is challenged to come up with new and exciting
adventures and gifts. (It’s pretty darn hard to outdo a “horse”---how about a
buggy for Midget to pull?) And, what good is a fine Morgan filly with a buggy
absent some fine leather harness for the job?
Somewhere
along the way, the “old man” added a scavenger-hunt to the festivities.
We
wrapped numerous gifts for each of the little girls and hid them throughout the
house. Then, “clues” were read giving hints as to where the treasures were
buried and off they went in search of the “goodies”. Long about age 12, the
girls were getting much too sophisticated for “childish” games, but, ole Bapa
sure didn’t notice; he still had the time of his life watching the little
darlings scamper about trying to “find” his tricks. Nanny finally felt sorry
for the children (mostly, Bapa, I reckon) and clued the old man in that they
had outgrown his senility! What!?
So,
now, good ole Christmas lacks Santa’s exuberance for “silly” pursuits. Hmm!
Still,
the old boy comes up with some pretty amazing gifts for his progeny; they never complain and always humor the old
guy; seems the “kids” like green-money just fine today.
Makes
shopping so much easier, not that I ever found such to be any kind of a chore;
I still have my Lovely Lady Candice Leah to “surprise”---this year…will again
be one of the best!
She
sure loved her first new bicycle, bright yellow, one special year. What about
this year?
Maybe
she’ll get some little notes and be sent off to “hunt” for her special
treasures? Hmm!
More
than one way to “skin-a-cat”. I reckon that so! Let’s see now---
Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “I found one!” Memories!
