Thoughts & Day 168 CJSM

Upon myriad dancing-diamond waves

In Simple-Humble pleasure search I find a diamond treasure
Love-Peace in soul-spirit-mind embrace soft-solitude measure
Upon yon lake-surface expanse me dancing-diamond pleasure

Comes ever-soft drift whisper-wind

And, now, yon storm-fury has been and gone and cleansed
and freshed as whisper-wind cool-soothes present time-space

Day 168

Becky & Beth would love perusing the toy aisles
while Mom & Dad waited to pick up a catalogue
order from J. C. Penny in South County

“Young” people, today, will find this archaic manner of shopping “on-line” a much an antique as the “old” people who trafficked in such ridiculous travesties of the once “modern”-era.
Yeah! Kids! We had (God forbid) “land-lines”; phones hooked together by cables connecting to other phones so we could communicate with one another. No “smart ”phone Amazon-ordering!
It was the “olden”-times? We called information for a phone number, called the store and placed a catalogue order, then, waited 5-7 days for the store to call us announcing the package had arrived at which time we loaded up the chariot and headed to the “catalogue” pick-up point.
But, the retailers and “entrepreneurs” of our day had it all figured---in their favor!
The waiting area at the pick-up store had chairs (because---you had to take a number and wait to be called for service), then the clerk went into a “secret” back room and found your order---well…maybe? Sometimes, it was lost, or, they called you and shouldn’t have. Hmm!
Anyway, the store had toy aisles set up in the waiting room area so your kids could peruse the “goodies”---whether, or not, your order was in….they usually made---a toy-sale…or, two!
Next time you get frustrated with today’s “modern” technology---just…re-read this tale!

Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “Number 347, Please!” Memories!
