Day 86
Beth’s yellow
blanket (it’s in her cedar chest)
I
reckon every kid has some “magic” safety-net to protect them from the monsters.
Maybe
it’s just plain ole security; a perpetual “friend”? For Beth it was her “yellow
blanket..
She
absolutely “lived” with that soft-comfort; it was attached to her---eternally.
After
years of service, and a few mis-steps along the way when the convenience was
(Oh! God!) forgotten and left at home on a trip to Tennessee when she was
three, the old fabric showed tattered and torn and terribly thin; still, she
would not allow a new replacement, insisting that she carry the now “rag”
around. Finally, she reluctantly gave it up as a perpetual adornment.
I
even offered to buy a new one of the same color and have Mom sew the old one to
it. Nope!
The
subject of the “pleasure” came up over the years; I sometimes wondered what
happened to that old friend. Turns out she solemnly “retired” it and now
treasures it in her cedar chest.
Time
passes. Space turns. Some things change. But---our saving Grace…Love endures!
Maybe
the “Yellow blanket” is a relic “rag” today, but, it holds a dear
treasure-measure for a fine lady who still loves the life she---and…it shared
some years ago. Amen! I love it, too!
What
sacred “treasures” have slipped your memory? Retrieve them and dust them off.
Enjoy
the experience---again…cherish the love ever
abandoned. It’s still an exquisite
treat.
Amen!
Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “Saved”- Memories!
