Happy Birthday! Carl!
Wow! Finally! 70 years old! And, I do mean---old!
In all honesty, I still "think" I'm 18!
Yeah! I know! My body knows I am not!
So? Cake and ice cream with a visit from the family.
No doubt---a few gifts...I do not need.
And---2017!? Well! Look out world,,,the seniors are Wild!
Let's see what I might try next? Ready? I am!

Talking about
“The Stooges”!
Somebody
once wrote a book titled: Everything I needed to know I learned in
kindergarten.
My upbringing and the way I turned out is
credited to the “magical”: Three Stooges!
Every day after dreaded school dismissed, I’d
hurry the block and a half to get home for the St. Louis channel 11 afternoon
favorite: Captain 11’s Show Boat! Harry Fender was the captain.
His show featured some slapstick comedy on his
part with insightful quips about the stooges; I don’t know if he ever met them,
or not. The short clips were presented as “children’s” entertainment and this kid found the crazed trio absolutely
delightful. Not everybody did so.
One of the nuns in my parochial school setting
derided my “playmates” with an onslaught of negative reasons why children
should not be subjected to such outlandish expositions. (Hell! I could have set
the good sister on her ear with some of the tales I could have told about some
of the parish respected “elites” and their shenanigans, but, discretion is,
indeed, the better part of valor.) So, I simply dismissed the assault from the
nun and enjoyed my stooges, even more.
And, Yes! I watched the antics with my
children and encouraged them to learn a foreign language: Pig Latin! There was also the “B---A…bay, B---E…bee,
B---I…bicky-bye…” song.
Great fun stuff for an irresponsible, immature
recalcitrant to learn. (Me---not…them!)
I “manage” English enough to get by, most of
the time; “Pig Latin” is my next most fluent language; I speak a smattering of French
and a bit of Spanish; put them altogether and I just might pass for being an
erudite “single-linguist”!? Everybody has to start---somewhere!
Jules White directed the antics with
irreverent style; Moe, Larry and Curly added the necessary “genius” to teach us
“humble” humor, able to laugh at ourselves.
In my simple opinion, we sure could use some
of that “humble” reality, today! Amen!
Okay!
So I don’t know which silver utensil to utilize for each dish; anyway, I was
once allowed into a “fancy” diner and they had so many eating-aids that I could
hardly get them all in my pocket to steal them. Betcha I can eat mashed
potatoes and peas with the best of them---just slather some taters on the knife
blade, dip ’em in the peas, slide ’em down the gullet…Voila!
The total surprise for me in this “Memory” is
Grandma’s seeming liking of the stooges? Wow! I reckon that after “I” entered
her ordered world, she could handle just about---anything!
Nyuk! Nyuk!
Nyuk! Cookie Jar Sweet Memories!
