Anti-Abortion

My life has awarded me many accomplishments.  Four cancer antidotes have been discovered because of the brain it gave me.  Three Nobel Peace Prizes have been awarded for the character it gave me.  Two wonderful children will carry on my legacy because of the amazing spouse it gave me.  One action made my life - you know the one that was supposed to help so many - disappear.  Why don’t you know me?  Really though, you should know everything about me and my life.  I mean, I am your child after all and everyone should know at least the bare minimum about their children.  You don’t know me because you choose to have an abortion, thereby killing me before I could prove myself to you and the to the whole world; all because you had some sort of a valid reason.  Just a few weeks into your pregnancy- my brain didn’t have the chance to fully develop, my character never came into the world, and my spouse died lonely.  However, in the eyes of the law, you have done nothing wrong because you had a “good” reason and no one pushed you or forced you to have the procedure.  Because no one gave me a chance, no one knows the cure for incurable diseases secretly lay hidden, waiting to be discovered, in my, now aborted, developing brain.  Every fetus (hereafter referred to as “baby”), at any age, deserves the right to live because:1) abortion equals murder:2)abortion can cause physical and emotional harm to the mother; and 3) abortion kills babies with organs, like brains and hearts, at various stages of development.

The definition of murder is, “the unlawful, premeditated killing of one human being by another” (Oxford Dictionaries).  Premeditation means to plan before taking action.  Accordingly, abortion should be defined as “legal murder”.  Everything clicked when I read, “When people murder someone, they sometimes say that the person was sinful, however when you kill an unborn baby you can’t say they are sinful. An unborn baby is literally an innocent life. It hasn’t sinned; it hasn’t done anything wrong because no one has given them a chance to do anything” (Dyar).  How can you or anyone disagree on what Dyar stated?  Each aborted baby did not cause themselves to be created.  When it never could have been the baby’s fault, it can’t be said that this counts as a sin against the baby.  Don’t believe embryos and fetuses are human? Consider this, “Every new life begins at conception. This is an irrefutable fact of biology” (Abortion Facts).  Frogs, giraffes, sparrows, humans, all start as a living being with a specific DNA for what and who each will be.  Even though none look the same two years later, each has have just reached a different stage of its life.  Abortion’s actual definition states, “Abortion is defined as induced termination of pregnancy before a fetus is capable of survival as an individual” (Dyar).  How the abortion will be performed, when it will occur, and where it is preformed - “induced termination” shows how far people go to plan out this event.  Thus taking us back to premeditation and then to murder.  Abortion of a baby at any stage of development in the womb is premeditated murder.

Each week a baby shows more signs of development and growth in the womb.  Just think, “An embryo’s heart begins to beat between 18-24 days after conception” (Clowes).  This means that after just 2.5 weeks the “thing”, that could later be aborted, has a beating heart in its little chest cavity.  In just another 2.5 weeks, another sort of magic happens, “This is when the baby’s brain, spinal cord, heart and other organs begin to form” (Fetal development: The 1st trimester).  It all happens five weeks into the pregnancy; we can see this happening on ultrasounds.  Doesn’t this sound like a truly magical time?  Magic that mothers experience daily during pregnancy.  How can you validate killing something that is so magical?  Just eight weeks into the pregnancy, “A fetus is likely to feel pain as early as 8 weeks after conception” (Clowes).  Many take the chance to hurt this little being just to live without having to raise it.  We will never know if the little beings feel pain from abortions because they can’t talk for themselves.  After learning all of this I was saddened to read a chart that showed at less than nine weeks of pregnancy equals 61.8% of all abortions (Facts on Induced Abortion in the United States).  All of this development and growth under its belt and and most babies are aborted at this point.  Think about all the work you put into a big project, like remodeling a house, and after less than nine weeks, it is destroyed.

Abortion doesn’t just destroy the development, growth, and life of babies, it also effects and could destroy the mother’s life.  After an abortion, women can suffer many negative health problems.  Dyar’s quote shows, “91 percent of abortions have negative health outcomes ranging from increased risk of breast cancer to psychological problems,” (Dyar).  As it turns out, much evidence can be found that shows abortions negatively affect mothers later in life.  One way it can affect mothers is, “A 1996 meta-analysis found a 30 percent increase in breast cancer risk among post-abortion women” (Stark).  Breast cancer is no joke.  My friend’s mom died of breast cancer; it seems to be one cancers that is difficult of which to rid oneself.  Even if women who have had an abortion avoid breast cancer, “Psychological Risks are depression, nervous disorders, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, alcohol and drug abuse, eating disorders, child neglect or abuse, divorce or chronic relationship problems, and suicide” (Research on the Psychological and Physical Effects of Abortion).  Why would someone chose to go through all of this  to murder a baby and just to not have to raise it?

My body, my choice. Commonly misunderstood, this reason that “supports” Pro-Choice and abortion, actually could tear their cause apart if more knew its flaw.  Many believe in the truth of the statement, “A woman has the right to decide what she can and can’t do with her body” (Arguments in Favour of Abortion).  What if I told you the baby/fetus or whatever you call it, never existed as a part of the mother’s body?  This flawed fact has been overused; everyone believes that a baby is a part of the mother’s body.  Now, consider this, my little non-believer, “The slogan “My Body, My Choice”, betrays a tragic misunderstanding of what is taking place inside the womb. At no point in pregnancy is the developing embryo or fetus simply a part of the mother’s body” (Part of the Mother’s Body?).  The developing baby is a separate and distinct individual. Unlike siamese twins, the mother and baby never share body parts.  Also, the baby develops its own unique DNA, different from the DNA of the mother meaning they could not survive connected or sharing any body parts.  No living being can live with two different and unique sets of DNA.  After learning this, how can anyone continue to support the slogan, “My body, my choice”?  Those little children had no say in the choices made affecting their little, individual bodies.

Your children grow up, learn more, and have a good time, but what about those who never had the chance to learn and grow?  All the lives they could have touched will be left unaffected; some might even chose different paths that will lead to tragedy.  Do you want to be able to tell your children that you could have potentially saved those aborted babies using your knowledge, but you didn’t?  I don’t.  Spread the word.  Every baby, of any age, deserves the right to live because abortion is legal murder, it kills babies with organs at varying stages of development, and post-abortion mothers experience physical and mental health problems.  Save lives.  Tell what abortion really does to anyone contemplating having the procedure done.  Talk to them.
