Day 37
Slide shows in
our living room---
projector,
screen and…popcorn
Always---the
“important” things of life…Simple!
One
of my hobbies is photography; I love to take pictures. Any subject, any time,
day or night
On
our first vacation to the colorful Colorado Rocky Mountains, I shot twenty-two
rolls of 36- exposure film; maybe even got a few “great” pictures from that
attempt. But, the viewer could ascertain that the subject was mountains, also,
that somebody had “shutter-bug”
fever.
(Okay---so
I’m guilty of getting a “little” carried away…sometimes?! It could be worse!)
We
took “road-tour”-type vacations more than the “typical” go to some resort and
lay around the pool kind. Hell! We lived on a “resort” at home: fine house,
pool, horses, entertainment. When free time from a job presented itself, my bones were “on-the-go”. Too much real
estate to see; too many places to go; too many people to encounter---Just what?
Is over the next hill?
Actually,
I was surveying the landscape for a new part of the country in which to take up
residence. And, I found nirvana,
twice; the first beauty succumbing to a gorgeous replacement.
Colorado
owned my heart for years and we visited there every chance we got; the family
fell in love with her beauty, also, though Miss Candy found the region too arid
for her tastes.
Recall
the old song lyrics: I overlooked an orchid while searching for a rose? Well!
When
Beth graduated from high school, we gave her a trip to Hawaii; Becky, a seventh
grader, had a friend in southern California so the pair flew there where Becky
vacationed with her friend and Beth went on to the western island. Miss Candy
and I flew to Oregon.
That
lovely lady stole my adventurous heart from dear old Colorado once I laid eyes
on the magnificence of the rugged pristine coast. Just---awe inspiring…Gorgeous! I was hooked.
We
spent vacations on the Oregon coast after that revelation; got to move there
four years later/ Beth attended Willamette University Law School in Salem,
Becky graduated high school in three years and returned to the midwest to
attend Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Z. Tyler, Miss Candy and I
“vacationed” in the “Great Northwest” for two years experiencing and exploring
the entire region from northern California to our beloved Victoria, British
Columbia. Beth finally concluded her law degree pursuit at Vanderbilt
University in Nashville, Tennessee.
During
that hiatus to the west coast, I managed to snap a few photos; we even had a
movie camera by then. Eventually we returned to our Midwest “roots” to “settle
down”, somewhat!?
Becky
got married in Germany, our true “Fatherland”, and I got some photos there,
too.
So,
our “entertainment” centered around “family-time” (the very best adventure) in
the simple pleasure of “slide shows”, even homemade “movie” production
viewings, Ah! The Good-times!
I
still take a few shots, now and then; digital is kind of less creative than a
35mm SLR.
As long the
family is together---I am completely…satiated! Amen!
Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet Memories!
