These CJSM blog-posts result from
a 50th Anniversary present from our
progeny last November 25. I took it
upon myself to write the story of each
of 365 "Memories" the girls had encased
in a cookie jar for us to reminisce over;
today is Day 302 of the continuing event.
Plus:
Day 302
A kiss on the
cheek for Hans
so Beth could
have her special glass
Deutschland! May 7, 1999---Becky
& Alex wed in Aussin, Germany and…we made it!
We
took a couple of weeks to tour the “Fatherland” for the occasion of Becky’s
wedding.
I
got an “International”-driver’s license and we rented a big ole “Green-monster”
van and set out to “tame the mighty-beast”, as it was, visiting France,
Austria, Switzerland & Netherlands.
We
stayed in “Youth hostels” and ate the local cuisine-offerings. What a great
adventure!
Running
late one night, I ended up driving on a sidewalk---by mistake…crazy American!
We
happened on a little “restaurant” somewhere on the highway down “yonder” in the
Black Forest; the food was delectable (whatever it was) and they served “Black
Forest cake” laced with some liquor-treat---I did not “drink” any…Lovely Lady
Candice Leah drank two slices!
The
old guy who might have been a WW II Nazi hide-away offered daughter Beth a Black
Forest shot glass as a souvenir---if…she
would kiss him. She wanted the glass so badly, she finally relented, allow the
old rapscallion to kiss her lightly on the cheek. (Those Germans!)
(She
still hasn’t lived that down, but still has and cherishes the shot glass
souvenir!)
Nanny
didn’t get one; she sure enough loved the “liquid”-cake! Made/drank several,
since.
Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “Ja vol!” Memories!
