The Ballad of Traci LaRue! (Part 7 of 9)

“Billy said, ‘There now! You’re clean and presentable enough to come into our school where Miss Traci will be more than happy to teach you---and…your friends. Your hat will dry white!

“There is still sometimes tension; prejudice dies ‘hard’. I heard Bone’s Pa wailed the tar out of him for losing a fight with an Indian; I think Sheriff Johnnie had a ‘heart-to-heart’ with his old man. So? The ‘Good’ battle rages on, I reckon so---but…sometimes, the ‘Good’ guys…Win!

“We still have our struggles, but, somehow, that Mystery benefactor seems to be on the right side!” Traci concluded her confession with a satisfying exhalation of tempered success.

“That’s one very beautiful story, Traci.” Micah complimented. “One day, I’ll tell you mine.”

In the dark-of-night as a single wolf far-off howled its lamented lonesome song and silver-tipped crystal-lake waves danced a lover’s song the pair cajoled sweet nature-time in enamored undulating passion of practiced love emotion-devotion. Sweet Love is to be wholly embraced.

Micah smiled his Love!-true but reserved his special “secret” secure, for the time being.

“Thee is luminescent like the alabaster pale full moon shafts caressing yonder lake rapture.”

And, in the throes-of-love unabated he spoke the words she so desired---and she said…”Yes!

Hinted pink-blush of dawn ushers-in golden sunlight

Encampment below awesome mountain pinnacle-sight

Dancing crystal-waves stir yonder Mystery Love-height

Indian schoolmarm charming lovely-maiden Traci LaRue

That mountain-man Micah loved the girl was all he knew

Live “Free” a bit south of comfort-warm sun high-noon

Just slightly west of a rising alabaster-pale full moon

Monday at noon, as Traci dismissed her charges for lunch break in the shaded schoolyard, they observed the buckskin-clad handsome mountain-man ride up, dismount and hitch his dark bay steed to the weathered rail to then boldly stride inside the school building.

As Indian and white-skinned child faces scrunched smashed nosey noses impolitely against the window panes, they laughed and giggled as Micah knelt on one knee and spoke to Miss Traci who brightly smiled as he placed a golden ring upon her hand. They “ooh-ed” and “aah-ed” when mountain man arose, took Traci firmly in his arms then kissed her with abandoned passion absent any thought to their presence. Slowly, the spectators offered privacy and melted away.
