Royalty
Resolved?
Softly yellow-light through yon
upper window-glass glows
Safe, home asleep, where love’s
sweet warm-comfort shows
A few short hours ago he lamented
Adieu! to teen-romance
Tearful farewell will soon give
way to football captain-chance
A boy just time-shy of two full
decades in good life
On ’morrow dons the colors to
cause his mother strife
Head held proud he’ll take the
sacred oath and weapon offered
Train hard, stand tall, a
striking gallant soldier cadence-coiffured
Some “Royal” leach who has yet to
work one single day
Took pretense offense at true slight
that did his rival say
Citizens upset at indignant
threat to their sovereign-pretend domain
“War!” Bellicose came which
tarnished crown obligingly proclaim
In cold mud of unknown battlefield
somewhere
Good boy-man soldier joined irreverent
prayer
A youth like me who wishes he
were home in comfort-bed
But, he’ll kill me as I slay him
until all Freedom-blood is shed
Together though, if we should
just but easy-talk
Throw down the rifle and away so
simply-walk
Save soul blood-washed clean
spirit free dark stained
Avoid vacant duel might, bury sad
bid pernicious pained
What then of injured pride to
royalty perceived?
No graveyards for the fallen heroes’
lives deceived
All now so simple in the truth of
things I always knew
Jesus came to say that He loves
me---and…Loves you, too!
Amen!
