The Farm!

$140k for a hunting preserve?---me? Never!...Well?…

1st time I viewed the old farmstead was deer-season the week before
Thanksgiving as I trudged in from the west over the limestone bluff-walls
protecting the pristine 214-acre fields and hardwood-forest along with the
rock-bottom creek bordering its northern boundary---Love!...at-first-sight!

I hunted there for some years, always harboring a “secret”-desire to satisfy
my longing to own the 1880’s-“old west” fantasy-image. Dream-boy!?

Also, much “free”-time found me scouring the farm (with the blessing and
permission of the old farmer-owner) scouting the elusive whitetail-ghost.

Many times I broached the subject of “buying”---the estate…No-sale!
The old farmer just was not interested---until…one day? Sale! Yea!

Our “new” farm-home was well over the century-mark in years. No plumbing!
We did have a well and a cistern; 5-gallon buckets provided “necessary”-water!

The kids and Lady Candice were---“great” (as usual)…through the ordeal.

In a little valley sporting a rock-bottom creek, I built us a real “new”-home.

Took me 6 and ½ weeks from start to finish; the pool came in Spring.

What an “estate”! I reveled as King of our absolutely delightful kingdom!

Lots of adventures on the farm. 24/7 work! Upkeep. Animals. Hobby-Delight!
Many a Friday I came “home” and did not leave my Paradise” until Monday!

We rode horses. Raised cattle. Sheep. Chickens. Cats. Dogs. Ducks. A turkey!
Bought a “few” sports-cars---for the girls and…I still do not have one! Hmm!?
I “played” golf in our front yard; kept the grounds manicured like a links-course.

We baled wheat-straw and coveted-alfalfa; both for sale and critter-feed.

Our girls grew-up, learned the value-of-work and the virtue-of-success. Good!

We vacationed in the Bahamas! South! Colorado! Oregon! Great-days! Great-life!

Mother-Nature and I did a good job with the land; she taught me a great-deal!
I triumphed with a lot more gleaned than I ever put-in though we worked hard.

Thank you! Amen!
