Mountains to Climb!
Behold cerulean mountains beauty lonesome steep
Miss not wide the mark their sacred meaning deep
Warming sun in piercing clear blue heaven-abyss
above
Comforts grizzled face like down of holy pure white
dove
Cool breeze refreshes from valley low cascading
sparkle river in it
Conifer-green reach the stars while a camp robber’s
nest, he spins it
Dying embers at midnight soothed by “hoot” of old
friend owl
Alabaster moon bright begets a wild coyote’s eerie hollow
howl
Sleepy restful slumber, then, with spying eye
askance ever slightly
Both ears listen keen for challenge as night wind
stirs wraith-lightly
Smile sweet comfort dream, Shoshone “Never-leave-me”
Startled awake in memory as stolen short life
deceived me
Life be for the living; to die young be an
aggregious sin
As I breathe on, perhaps, comes promise yet to love
again
Tomorrow spy a silvertip, a harbinger of luck
Sight grey timber wolf, then harvest dinner buck
“Smoke” will carry burden home on leather saddle
shiny-worn
Before the Fall to patch again these skins thin-worn
and torn
First, though, to Rendezvous when summer warms July
That sacred secret meeting place in yonder valley
high
Horse-trade bargain tanned hides for winter’s shot
and powder cache
This time, perhaps, a handsome squaw for warmth
against a frigid dash
For Christmas tree, the northern lights to decorate
New Year’s Eve? Saved bottled wine to celebrate
Once tread upon white sand beach at blue crest water
ocean tide
Then climbed atop snow-capped peak, traversed far
mountainside
Circle seasons slowly complete an awesome lifetime
ring
Thank You, Lord! For allowing me just one more
Spring
Time has been and come and presented really only
“Now”
Because I feared-not to live, to die I easily do know
“How”
