“If you could choose a ‘flat’ line life without
severe fluctuations with only a very few ‘ups’ and ‘down’s’ or a fury of
extreme reaches like the jagged line while knowing that each ‘high’ point would
require an equally ‘low’ depression through your life span, which would you
pick?”
Absent even an eye blink of hesitation,
I confessed with Honor and
commitment, “I’d take the extreme adventure---all day long…every time! No
question!”
Michael smiled, apparently pleased with
my reply, kind of like he already knew my answer.
Actually, and I did allow this Truth to Michael by way of explanation,
it is exactly how I live.
Michael went on to explain about the “Wind” of the Holy Spirit, the manner in which it can manifest itself in time of
need, especially when wrestling with an important decision.
He had a girlfriend, once, who fell
victim to evil cancer; they attended
a preacher’s prayer service and went up for “altar-call” at the conclusion.
Michael said he did not really expect
anything “physical” to occur but as he and the girl walked up three steps to
the altar area to meet the minister, a very strong “wind” swirled around the couple, strong enough that they had to
literally lean into it, a bit; problem was, they were inside a closed building and
there was no “wind”. Michael said it was the stirring of the Holy Spirit and he admitted, “I started
bawling like a baby! I had no control over the emotion.”
“So?” I inquired. “What happened to your
girlfriend with the cancer?”
He looked sad and said, simply, “She
died about two years later. It was God’s
will.”
He sobered. “That’s exactly the point,”
he concluded in exclamation, “it’s not up to us.
“Just like the ‘birth’ and
‘death’---it’s all…in His plan and in His hands.”
In later exchanges with people whom I
have opened up to share some of my beliefs and religious and spiritual
conclusions, that point of not being in control of life and death often got a
not unexpected reply and reaction: Oh!
Yeah! What about ‘suicide? Aah! The Challenge.
To which objection, I retort, “What
about failed suicides? Perhaps some future time is their Rendezvous with death? Are they a
‘second’ premature in their execution or a time-period late in their arrival at
determination of their exit point? When He
calls---I am going…and so are all!”
Michaels and I had a 17 year “Spiritual” relationship; it was
educational, enlightening. Great!
His death Rendezvous came at the age of 58. I miss him and will forever love
his spirit. Amen!
