Rendezvous (Part 1 of 2)

Rendezvous

A Time to be born---A Space to live…A Rendezvous with destiny! Amen!

He came into my office about 2:30 in the afternoon; it was, indeed, unusual for me to be at my desk any time after the noon hour as , by then, I was out and about running a sales itinerary.

Sensing a presence in the doorway, I looked up from my reports and saw Michael leaning against the jamb. That was surprising since we each had our assigned duties and while we were both employed at the same company, we had little, if any, interaction other than an occasional “Hi!” when we met in passing. I smiled and opened with, “Michael! How are you?”

“Do you ever feel like you’re going to cry but there is no reason for it?” He queried.

I laid my pen on the desktop and sat back in my chair to answer without thinking.

“Yeah. When I am in church. It happens all the time at the ‘offering’ and at ‘communion’.”

That reaction to his very strange inquiry was also “out-of-the-ordinary”, for me. I am usually very private, an Independent Individual who values time as a personal matter to be cherished.

“Do you know what causes that sensation?” Michael asked, straightforward.

“No!” I answered, honestly, wondering what this was all about and where it might be going.

He stepped into my office and came up to the front edge of my desk; he looked serious.

Pointing to his stomach and making an elongated circle around his midsection, he pronounced with a very slight “air-of-importance”, “The Holy Spirit lives in your solar plexus and that crying sensation comes from His ‘stirring’ whenever you are in a ‘state-of-Grace’!” He paused, waiting.

I was intrigued, both with Michael’s boldness on a spiritual topic to a mere acquaintance and, more importantly, with his disclosure about the Holy Spirit Grace and the “stirrings” event he had described; I was fully attentive. I take my Faith both personal and private---and…yet!?

“That ‘crying’ sensation can even cause actual tears as your eyes well-up from the pressure behind them from theses stirrings of the Holy Spirit.” Michael concluded.

I nodded assent. “Yes! I sometimes get that sensation whenever I do some charitable deed, or, even a kind thought or pray for someone, especially, any family member; I never knew what caused it other than some vague, unconscious understanding that it simply resulted from Love.”

He smiled at my unabashed, yet sincere, confession. I had to agree that such conversation was foreign in my tenure with even people of long experience; I hold religious matters very personal.

Michael asked for a blank sheet of paper and a pen; I politely, obliged.

He turned the paper sideways, horizontally, and proceeded to make an “x” just above the centerline on the left side and another to the far right; he drew a straight line between the two, connecting them.

Pointing to the left side “x”, he said, “This is your birth date---” and placing the pen point on the right mark, he declared, “…this is your death date.” Then, he waved his hand between the two just above the paper and said, “this part in between them is your life-space.”

“The ‘birth’ date and the ‘death’ date you have no say in---None!...It’s what you do with the ‘space’ in the middle that really matters.”

He paused, letting his explanation sink in; it did.

“I get it and I agree.” Came my comment as I waited.

He did not disappoint my patience. Michael took the pen and began on the left side at the “x” and proceeded to make a severe jagged line with points varying in height as he moved along the flat centerline and stopped at the right “x”. Some jags were small extending to a few large ones reaching both above and below the “life” line. I watched, wondering where this was going.
