Pleasant-surprise!

Surprise!

How-thoughtful! Thank-you! That picture sure-enough brought back pleasant-memories.

We received our-mail this-morning about 45-minutes later than-usual; how can the daily-post be of such-importance as to “know” the time-of-arrival within 5-minutes either side of 10:30 a.m.? Hmm!? Such practiced-nuanced idiosyncrasy might conclude more about-me than intended!? I would describe my perfectly Great-life as: Blessed! Adventurous! Satiated! Cool!

Maybe, as they-say, “The devil is in the-details!”? Anyway, the-mail held a delightful-surprise! Among the myriad political-ads and commerce-invitations was a “Personal”-note card.

Eyeing the return-address, I viewed a name from the-past: Mr. Norman Schmidt! Surprise!

Norman is a cousin on my dad’s-side of the-family; his Grandpa-Martin and Norman’s Grandma were brother and sister. When I was a kid living on Washington Street in Columbia, Norman was our mail-man; he came each day about 2:30 p.m.; on hot summer-days I greeted him at the front-door with a glass of ice-water. It made me feel-useful and Norman sure seemed to enjoy the cooling-offering.

When I-opened his letter, today, I found a note saying he thought I-might enjoy the-enclosure. I surely-do! It is a 5”X7” black and white photo of my great-Grandparents, Martin and Catherine, on their 60th Wedding-Anniversary celebration in 1953 at their farmhouse north of Waterloo. Wow! I treasure those-days and the-emotions the precious-memories evoke.

Lady-Candy does genealogy-research and the-photo will go into her-archive treasure-trove.

I was a tender 6 year-old on that day; I still remember the-occasion! Thank-you! Norman!

Often, of-late, I find myself writing about the “Saints & Angels” among-us; they are-myriad!

So---today’s-mail was…a delightful-surprise! Thanks for making my Fabulous!-day…Better!

Thanks-for-the-memories!

Sincerely, Carl
