Day 124
Beth loved going
to Sears at Crestwood because she could
pretend to ride
the Palomino pony with the fancy
black western
saddle and bridle.
That
would be the storefront mechanical horse that gave a kid a ride for a quarter.
Beth
loved horses; got to know them watching the t.v. series, “Fury” riding the
range on wild adventures with Joey and his sidekick, Pee-Wee. When she was
four, we went horse-y shopping!
We
would go into a barn to view the critters; Beth would stride right up to the
half-ton beasts and pet their necks and talk to them while “city-slickers’ Lady
Candice and I cowered against the far wall hoping the “monster” would not hurt,
or eat, us! Beth was intrepid!---and…relentless!
We
bought our first equine in a little town from a lady who loved ole Lady-Belle
and we pastured the old girl on a fifteen acre site owned by a friend of mine.
Soon, we all got into the rhythm of the four-legged wonders and fell in love
with the hobby.
The
“herd” grew to seven at one point; I even “forked” the steeds a time or two,
myself.
We
loved the critters but foaling-time was the
best; everybody loves a baby, even a horse.
Several
were born to us on our little farm. Today, our girls ride like the wind. Fabulous!
Best
pet in this ole world for a kid; for me, too. Teaches responsibility and
respect and love.
Our
progeny has never been demanding of anything and Beth was satisfied to ride
that mechanical horse-y in front of Sears at Crestwood mall for a few years.
Hell! Had I not been an “adult” size myself by then, I might have “Yahooed!”
that equine my ownself fanning its bucking and rearing antics with my cowboy
hat to urge him on!? Yes! Siree! I sure would have!
Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “Horse-feathers” Memories!
