Winter-morn (Unicorn)-Horses!
20
°! Wow! Sharp-cold this morning. 6 a.m.!
Silver-frost
crackles under my insulated-
boots
as I cross the yard to the waiting-
critters;
gentle-whinnies and soft-nickers
greet
me as I approach the barn-door.
Alerted
by my cayuse-herd of five, the sheep
offer
a “Good-morning”-bleat and the ten
herd-of-cattle
“moo” a breakfast-appetite.
A
cheery salutation of “Good-morning!”
to each
of
the steeds, in-turn, by name, and a general
soft-voice
greeting to the other barn-residences
holds
their attention as I climb the hay-loft ladder.
Through
strategic holes in the floor positioned
above
the feed-mangers below, I toss “flakes”
of
green alfalfa to the hungry-heard. Each breed
has
their own feed-setup so all get ample nutrient.
Later
in the afternoon they’ll get another helping
of
green-fodder along with grain to help stave-off
the
fast-comng cold winter-night’s dulling-chill.
As
I gently pet each horse before returning to the
house
for breakfast, I bury my tingling nose in the
steeds’
furry necks for warmth. Ahh! Nothing
like
“horse”
aroma in a frosty winter’s unicorn
pleasure!
Amen!
