Miss
“Emma!”
She
wore bibbed overalls, a faded light blue long sleeve shirt,
work
boots and a beat-up old straw hat which had seen its better
days.
Miss Emma always looked like Grandmas
ought to look.
In
her long ago youth, she, no doubt, was a most curious little
girl,
always exploring everything; she loved Mother Nature and
while
she was popular and well-liked, she enjoyed her own company.
Emma
lived alone in an old brick house which sported a generous
front
porch where she spent summer evenings watching traffic pass
by
on a once busy highway now vacated by a new thoroughfare.
The
comfortable residence had been her parents and their parents before
them;
Emma had never lived anywhere else and had never married.
The
ancient pick-up truck she drove to church and the IGA in town had
probably,
at some earlier date, been a bright, shiny red; her favorite color.
Oh!
It was still red, sort of, after thirty years, mostly “red”-rust. C’est la vie!
Emma’s
delight and mission in life was to grow beautiful flowers; she
even
had a smallish greenhouse in her side yard. She sold to friends and
neighbors,
nothing commercial; just a personal Love!-hobby!
Amen!
In
later years, Emma hired a young boy from the church congregation to
help
out with chores; Matt later became a preacher-man in the church.
Each
Easter, Emma delighted giving each of the Sunday school children
a
colorful pansy in full bloom; they loved the gift---and…Miss Emma!
To
this day, many still tell their children and grandchildren of her kindness.
After
our Miss Emma sojourned on to her celestial garden where she now
helps
His Saints & Angels tend myriad fragrant glorious colors and subtle
hues,
her
“Preacher”-man honored her precious-memory in a “tribute”-sermon.
He
talked about her Christian-generosity
kindness and special love of
flowers,
also, mentioning his annual Easter pansy-gift from her. Amen!
Poor old Emma! She left an estate of over
$3-million!
Saints among us! Angels, too! Indeed!
His bona-fide
“elites” never glow faux-celebrity---only…exemplar-Love!
Amen!
