Soft azure skies punctuated with puffy white

floating clouds warmed by a comfort sun made

pleasurable on a pleasant whisper-wind, that’s

the September experience. A taste of heaven-on-earth!

Heirs!

 

“Count” your silver & gold?!

Nah! Waste of-time. Absolutely!

 

No-matter how-“much” or how-“little” the tally-sum,

someone will surely get the-“count”- accurate before

the horde is divided amongst the-heirs. Yes! Sir!

 

And - - - no-matter the final-sum … it-will never be …enough!

Our Mother, Mary!

 

“Blessed”-Mary!

We have a concrete-statue of the Blessed-Virgin, Mother-

of-Jesus, in out English-garden setting-Peaceful! Beautiful!

 

As a-child, the church-statue honoring-Mary displayed her

in a light-blue gown; her face radiant and lovely!  Amen!

 

I would sit in a-pew and wonder at Mary’s reverence.

 

Pure-Love and Goodness! Quite-calming to a rascal-youth!

 

Often, I would see my precious-mother’s face in the Mary-Honor!

 

Amen!

Appreciation!!!

 

No “new’-shoes!

My-dad was never one to-complain; always seemed-happy!

 

Taught me-well, of many-things; showered my a “respect” for-nature

 

Our school-district announced this-summer that it would-offer

“Free”-lunches to every-student. Wow! Very-generous with our tax-money

 

“Half” the tax-payers will take that “snide”-comment to

give them license to say that I want to starve-kids?!

 

Actually, there is another tangent to my-comment. Hmm!

 

So? “Some”-parents are disparaging the “volume” of

food allowed each-student in the “Free” give-away; not-enough!

 

I saw a picture of the purported “Free”-meals; looked

pretty-good to-me; double the amount I-ate for lunch as a-kid!

 

A school-cafeteria worker commented that the servings were

an ample amount and nutritious. She suggested that “if” anyone

did not like the “offering” to bring “Free” food from home.

 

Dad got a 3¢-orange for his “Depression-era” 6^th-Christmas;

he never-complained; his-mother; my-Grandma, told me the-story!

Can it be enough?

 

Can it be-enough? - - - or … must?!

I came home, at-last to a surprise pink-blush dawn

My last-coin spent on midnight-hour fun; I-yawn

Late for-work, again; if I go! The bluegill have begun to-spawn

 

Momma cleaned the-windows and they rattle as the 6:10-express rumbles-by

Our railyard-shanty is tattered and torn; I feel a-raindrop from a darkened-sky

I-think; sacred- Love held-us together as a continent-bound jet overhead roars-by

 

Be-nice if I could buy Momma pretty-flowers; surely, she’d appreciate

She works-hard and always takes my-side. “He’s a good-boy!” she bible-negotiates

With this low-front shower, the fish probably won’t be biting, I contemplate

 

Before I-reach the door the dismal-sky is-clearing; so much for good-intention

Momma’s-breakfast quick-eat; fresh shirt and pants, quickly improvise-invention

Tomorrow!?  - - - Tomorrow!? … I’ll reform!? The fish are waiting in a “school” convention

 

The-road to Hell is paved with “good”-intentions!

My horns grow-bold! Halo-fades! Heaven is in-suspension!

Legacy: Rebel! Rascal! Rogue! Gypsy-rapscallion! Sin-“sention”

These old-eyes have truly witnessed “Glory!”

Touched yon-moon and Unicorn-soared the cosmos-story

 

For I have-been - - - and, am … and may on the ’morrow-be

Myriad-more awesome-adventure visions may I-see

 

Emerald-valley low sauntered to the-pinnacle snow-summit high

Spied yonder-eagle from-above looking-down upon the-sky

 

Played game-of-tag with blue-Pacific Ocean foam-surf

Thundered emerald-meadow on noble steed to-streak and jump the-turf

 

Learned eons long-ago to balance ride a two-wheel bike

Even hit a home-run or two! Found not every-pitch had to-be a perfect-strike

 

Kissed-awake each pink-blush dawn to-born one more fantastic-day

Delightful-played ole Santa Claus and drove his soaring-reindeer red-sleigh

 

Been a few-places where I wanted just to-go and mostly done it-all!

Love pure-perfect winter-white, then green-spring, summer, and favorite fall

 

Bring-me! Lord! Lovely-nature’s midnight lightning-flash and wind and rain and ice

Hot-tea before a crackle-comfort fire to dream Fantasy-Magic unicorn true-spice

 

On some yonder-day shall-come my number-call! Sure-enough! Reckon-so!

I have-licked the sugar-honey candy-cane tasting sweet-life and with-Love I will surely-go

Well! I don’t have a new-fangled fancy-phone,

probably too “dumb” (or - - - too …smart) to employ its use.

 

Anyway, I-know a few words and - - -  can-write … a-little

 

And, reality - - - “they” have no-time … All I have is- “time”!

One fine summer day the yellow rosebush flowered

a-dozen blooms. Just - - - Perfect! … Beautiful!

 

I-cut half of-them, wrapped the stems with wet paper-towels,

 trimmed away the several-thorns, went to D-Q and

bought six hot-fudge sundaes and began-deliveries.

 

Lovely- Lady Candice-Leah got a-rose and a sweet-treat

as did her two co-workers along with her-mother, my mom

and neighbor-lady, Deloris. They were all-happy! But - - - I…

got the Greatest-reward! That “good”-feeling is still with-me!

Better-effort toward any-task results a positive-action

Self-worth is a-reward unto-itself; feels “good” to-complete

a job-well-done. Pride!  of accomplishment embellishes-ambition.

 

When one begins to-“pray” always, in every-instance of-life,

that-is, to-offer every-action of thought, word, and deed as

 Praise! Honor! and Glory! to-God! Then, Best is at-hand.

practiced slovenly-attitude toward self and life; the

determined-concluded result of such self-loathing is always

 a poor and embarrassing-determination. Just - - - take … Pride!

“Was-blind - - - but … now I-see!”

I sat in a pew by an open-window in the century

and a-half old church constructed of limestone and

sandstone quarried-blocks; I love the tall-steeple of

standing-rib metal-roofing and the gold-cross a top it.

 

It is August - - - plenty hot at mid-day … no-air conditioning!

 

Our children are completing “Summer Sunday-School”

and have a program for parents and relatives. Beautiful!

 

The collective-of-“cherubs” voice in-song a-hymn I

have not heard before: “Amazing Grace”! Indeed!

 

Tears-well in my-eyes at the simple-reverence of-prayer!

 

Even-I, not-blessed with a-virtuoso singing-voice can

carry this-tune as its simple-lyrics flow the-notes in-Praise!

Honor!  and Glory! to God! The Spirit-“stirring” brings-tears

as I write these words some-forty years after the-event.

 

Across the parking-lot of this lovely-little country-church

stands an emerald-green cornfield in the August-hellion

and I-am Proud! to-be-a-simple Country-boy Christian!

Progress!!!

 

So?! - - - Today …I…

Well! - - - What a beautiful-day for …a-walk!

 

May 26, the medicos took my right-leg below the-

knee: it was diseased and had to-go. Nobody’s-fault - - -

save, maybe, my-own… might have taken diabetes a-bit

more-seriously?! Perhaps?! Anyway - - - it …happened. Amen!

 

Lots of Saints and Angels out-there to-“help” a-

wretch like-me. Thank-God! I always needed all the-

help I could-get?! Sure-enough recon-so? Amen!

 

So? The professionals said 2 weeks in the-hospital

after-surgery?! I did “3” days and was off to-rehab

that they scheduled for 2-weeks; I was “home” in 4-“days’.

Because of Memorial Day holiday, I only got, and

only needed, 2 days of P.T. and 1-day of O.T.

 

They said I’d begin to walk in 3-months; 10 weeks and 1 day

later, I’m up on a “new”-leg with a-walker; plan to-be

advanced to a-cane by next-Wednesday; Friday at the-latest!

 

Life is-good! I’ve always been exceedingly-blessed! Still-am!

 

Faith! Family! Freedom! Sure-works for-me!

Our-girls (3-granddaughters) are at the-university for-

Fall-semester classes. So very-Proud of these young-ladies!

 

Sisters Lauren and Anna are at University of Kentucky

while Lexi begins college at Murray State University in the same-state

 

They will do “Great!” So-smart! Beautiful! Mature!
