Hero!
I
happened to catch the tail-end of an old movie today.
Stand-by-me! Is a tale of
pre-teen youth growing-up.
When
I find myself regaling our progeny with exploits
from
my adventurous-time and space, (seems
I do that
“reminiscing”
more and more often here-of-late) most of
The
“tales” put my age at about “12”; not sure why that is.
Certainly,
some events occurred at that
time-o-life for me.
but,
a great-deal of my time turned into extra-ordinary
“fun”.
(Occasionally,
real-damages resulted;
fortunately---mostly…fun!)
In
the movie, four-friends go on a quest to find the dead-body
of
a teen from their small Oregon-town who was killed by a train.
The
story is amusing and entertaining---and…bittersweet.
Lovely-Lady
Candice-Leah smiled and laughed at the antics in
the
film, being-polite, finding “humor”
in my reaction to the tale.
I
picked up on her “motherly”-understanding of an overgrown-
septuagenarian
who tends to live in some fantasy-mental state.
She
was not unkind in her assessment---just…amused.
Hmm!
I
tried to explain my sympathetic-reaction
to the movie-boys’
take
on the predicaments unfolding in their young-lives suggesting
to
Lady-Candice that an understanding of
the emotions and
importance
of the events to the actors might be better accepted
if she had
experienced “life” as a pre-teen male. She just smiled!
One
of the boys in the movie grows up to be a “writer”. At the end
of
the film, he is writing the tale of their super-adventure.
Wow!
The
last line of his “book” goes something like this: I never had
friends in life
like I had when I was twelve. Nobody does! Amen!
Maybe
my reaction is akin to what I hear people speak of with a
certain
lamented sense-of-loss when they speak of a “1st-love”!
Reckon
“youth” was, indeed, my 1st-love!---and…I
do miss it!
Still---this
demented-mind…seems to forever eschew
“adulthood”!
Maybe---I
can’t to-back…Or---maybe…I chose just
to never-leave!
Little-boys
need a “hero”---me, still…mine are: Life! & Love!
Oh!---Did I ever tell you about the time...when I was 12...?
Amen!
