Starry-eyed!

Starry-eyed!

In a “youth”-space, now decades ago in treasure-measure time
an “innocent” starry-eyed boy contemplated “meaning”!

Born of a family-of-Love! into a time-of-youth portending
sweet-innocence in history as the ever-watchful “Senses
seemed to have all mankind and his “necessaries” in view
keeping the world-“safe” in angelic-Goodness! Wow!

Yeah! I’ll live---there!...And, Sure-enough! “I”-did!

WW II had ended. The world rejoiced. Rebuilt. Life was “Good”!

No-better time in history in this youth’s innocent starry-eyes. Amen!

And, in that “fantasy”-life a poor-boy wondered---Life!...And, Love!

Sacred-religion permeated his life; Love satiated his spirit-wild.
The “Good”-guys wore white-hats; the “Good”-guys---always…Won!

Somewhere in the days of sun and rain and clouds and ice and snow,
along that irresistible trace traversed in sweet-abandon, a calling,
whisper-wind soft, teased the ears of our lad, caught his attention.

Love: Of Faith! Of Family! Of Freedom! Of Liberty & Mother-Nature!

The kid watched a neighbor’s TV evening-news as a war raged in Asia.
One of his parents’ friends got a divorce; he vaguely “understood”!?
Poverty! Disease! Crime!---Worse!...Reluctantly filtered into a life.

Within that upbringing of “Goodness” from family-Love and sacred-religious
indulgence-acceptance and belief was born a “desire” to Save-the World! Wow!

Trouble with that “intent” was two-fold:
1) The boy, in spite of deep-concern, had “no”-means at-hand to save anything;
2) Quickly, our innocent-youth with starry-eyes learned that the world did not
want to be saved---from anything…especially…itself!?

Optimistic, with an attitude of “Do the very best you can do!” our youth
accepted the “challenge” of imperfection in a material-world; he refused
to abandon his deep-seated moral-commitment for “Good; he did refuse
to ever allow himself to participate in the “evil” he saw around him.
And, in this end---Hope!...the declaration of a starry-eyed youth endures.

Saints Among us! Angels, too!---“I” fall well-short…Still, I always…try! Amen!
