…The thirty-five “Secrets” can be summed
up in one all-encompassing determination: LIVE!
I am writing this information on
February 24, 2011 around one-thirty in the afternoon.
I was thinking of the people I love most
in this life and the phone rang; it was one of those saints I admire and I had
been thinking of him specifically just moments before he called. Z. Tyler is
our grandson and we have evented the adventure since he was born.
He said that he had a good night at the
casino last evening, but today was a tragedy. He just received a text message
from a friend who is a soccer player at the University he attends; her
twenty-five year old married sister was killed in an auto accident last night.
He explained what had happened and was, naturally, quite upset.
We speak often and I am blessed to see
him on a regular basis. This particular conversation may have been one of the
best we ever had. I told him all the things I had just written, not in the
fashion as they appear on paper, but in a general, yet directed, manner. I hope
I summarized this little devotional with the emotional message contained
therein: LIVE!
Three people have died in the last
several days who were close to Z. Tyler. That reality has caused him to pause,
and think. I pray that my words helped him cope, in some manner.
For each of us, there is only…Now! This
instant, then, perhaps, one more; and on and on.
And, in the snap of a finger…it is gone!
Replaced by another. And, now, it is gone.
Will there be another? Just one more chance?
Tomorrow? Perhaps? Maybe?
That is the point---precisely! All any
of us have is…Right now! Period. Choose carefully.
Contemplate these suggestions,
scrutinize life, get priorities in order, live with courage.
If it is enough to just breathe and take
up space, then all is futile. Life can be no more than a shadow cast by a
passing cloud. It, at least, provides shade and some comfort. Man is created in
the image and likeness of God. That is permission enough to---simply…Do!
I pray that those who died had the
opportunity to do all that they dreamed, that they had the courage to think big
and the audacity to grab the reality of their desires. Carpe Diem!
I wish you well on this journey. I pray
your imagination expands beyond the universe and that you challenge life for
all it is worth. The joy is in the journey! Don’t miss it! Amen!
