Surreptitious
scouting-light marks trace for sunrise follow
Wily whitetail
trophy buck sniffs morning chill in cedar-thicket yonder
Steeds awaken
morning “whinny”-nicker-greetings adventure-wonder
Before the
crescent-redness kisses indigo sky, riders descend upon the stable
Grain-buckets rattle,
alfalfa-flakes forked to mangers as grooms set the table
Orange-crimson
orb, at last, victorious-triumphed ascending-full cerulean abyss
Equine-caretakers
scurry filling water troughs; stall-cleaning urchin guy and miss
Steeds tethered
cross-tie brush-currying tooth-combed to unravel-fluff mane-tail
Pasture-herd
alert-ears sentinel the ridge above a frog-pond of cattail harbor-swale
Tack-checked
with bridle-clean and saddle-soaped, equestrians “Mount!”
Warm-up in the
outdoor arena around painted proper jumps myriad to count
Tiny-tendril
tornadic-spirals dust-rise with each precise hoof beat prance
Feel the rhythm
count 1-2-3 prepare free-fly the bar in a spiritual dance
Rail
patterns-practiced train athletic noble beast, educate the experienced-rider
Two-point trot
to canter correct-lead intricate like some awesome web-of-spider
Piqued-personalities
honed, now on display as participants “show-y” their stuff
Proud horses,
they are, the noble beast; and, too, the masters are pretty---tough
Hot-blood
flowing free, strong-muscles loose, agile-ready through the gate
Cross-country
field awaits with ups and downs of difficult challenged-fate
Hear thunder-powerful
cadence-drum of racing chargers rhythm-stride glades
“Ou’s!” and
“Ah’s!” exclaim rush-whispers applauding equestrian accolades
