Alfalfa!
“That’s
the ‘one’ I’ve been looking for!”
Dad
joked when we tossed the “last” heavy-
bale
of alfalfa-hay into the loft. I laughed.
He
was highly intelligent, of quick-wit
and
teased a subtle sense-of-humor.
Now
that I-reflect on Dad, he was- “Cool”!
I
enjoy hard, physical labor; always have.
Been
mowing lawns since age-6; Mom & Dad
helped
(a lot) but taught me to value-work
and
find pride in any-job “well-done”!
I
winter-fed those hefty hay-bales to the
farm-critters
over snowy-cold icy-bleakness.
Horses,
cattle, sheep, and more; fed chickens,
ducks,
doves, dogs cats and one turkey name of “Tilley”
rescued
by my sibling-sister from an animal-shelter.
Rode
the steeds; played “Drown-Dad!”
in
the rock-bottom creek with our girls;
had
us a time or two; wish it to never-end.
Sure
felt good at “end-of-day” when I
hefted
Dad’s “one I’m looking for” last
heavy-bale
into the loft - - -knowing
…the
best was yet to-come.
Amen!
