Happy Birthday! Lady Candice Leah!
(May 6, 2017)

My Dear Candy-girl:

And---When?...Thee lightens me soul, soars me spirit free, delights me heart-display:

At the whisper-pale hint of dawn’s promised new-born day to come;
In freshness-light sunrise-break through yonder window golden-glow;
Sweet-warmth caress angelic-sleeping soft-form sublime still dreams;
I whisper-kiss cool forehead to nudge thee full-waking consciousness;
Gentle-touch soft silkness-hand etch face indelible upon me loving mind;
Flicker-slight to open-wide bright-crystal orbs-brown beauty-sight delight;
Embrace deep-passion morning kiss “I love you!” more each coming day;
Holding hands at breakfast-nook while I soft-gaze explore thy spirit-soul;
Mid-morn to plan day-trip event-search wild adventure-bound once more;
On toward the high noon sun we trek just shadow-south of zenith-reach;
Migrating geese “V”-pattern flight-sight; must stop to hear eerie wild-call;
Why longer on one side? My joke!? More birds upon that lengthy-line!
Light-lunch upon yon hillock view of silver-mirrored reflection lake surface;
Perhaps! Sun-warm dance sparkle-waves at Fox Lake retreat upon me youth;
Then, down the ribbon-road to measure treasure-find around any next bend;
Hold hands to chat of life and love and ”goodness”-times with progeny;
Speak-heart intent to lovely-Thee pure-purpose only that ye know me truth;
Ice cream pause mid-afternoon of sojourn-dream complete respite-delight;
Oh! Simple-I! Humble-I! Exceeding blessed of Love beyond universe-infinity;
A “metaphoric” golden crown proud donned with seven precious sparkle-jewels;
Thee! Me Love! From yesteryear to present-now into our future ’morrow-cast;
Catherine Elizabeth (the Great) of beauty-blonde intelligence a loving-heart;
Rachel Rebecca-girl (me clone-God help her) beauty-brains ample to spare;
Zachariah Tyler (shadow-buddy boy) Adonis-handsome quick-wit to admire;
Lauren Victoria (little professor-mommy) regal-sophisticated equine-talent;
Alexandria Elizabeth (Aphrodite-like) rides horse, plays chess extraordinaire;
Anna Marie (free-spirit banter-wit) on “Zorro”-steed, beauty-intelligence refined;
Not bad! Indeed! For a poor rascal, rebel, rogue, recalcitrant! Absent? Cance!?
“Supper” beside yon natural roadside spring of picnic lunch thee love-prepared;
And—for dessert…a sweetness kiss-embrace to silent-yell: Me girl! I thee love!
Purple-cadenced marching mist-clouds sentinel-guard soft evening chant-delight;
Comes soft-descent velvet-black abyss myriad blue-white twinkle diamond-tale;
In old porch swing, hand-in-hand, soft-talk of time through space eternal-life Love!
Mid-night hour approach to close one more adventure-day sublime upon me memory;
“I love Thee more each day! Me Sweet!” May Love continue eternal-universe wide!
Faith! Family! Freedom! Might just be all there really---Is!
In one eternal instant the only mercy-blessing will be…His! Amen!

Happy Birthday! Me Lovely Lady Candice Leah!

Day 158

2627 Oak Ridge Dr., Waterloo, IL 62298

When we returned home from our sojourn to Oregon and Tennessee, I found a lot (6.24 acres) for sale; we purchased the property and I built a new home with pool, stable and white board fence. Located about a mile outside of New Hanover, we lived there about seven years.
I “sold” that fine residence and built our next domicile on 31 acres about ½ mile (as the crow flies) from the previous home. After a few years, I “packaged” that “huge” house with acreage in a “trade/swap” deal which reclaimed our old residence at 2627 Oak Ridge Dr. plus a ten acre property with house which I remodeled, a subdivision home which we sold and a literal “truck-load” of cash. We moved back into the 6acre home and stayed several more years.
Yeah! It’s true! I sure enough am a “gypsy-trader”. I just love “horse-trading” wheeler-dealer!

Thoughts & Day 157 CJSM

Value-show; Virtue-glow:

The rich man waved a crisp-new hundred before the congregation;
A Simple-Humble man quiet laid a hard-earned quarter in the basket;
And, God---forgave evil Pride…Salvation-blessed Christian-generosity

Pray I! Lord! For Thy wisdom to thank Thee for any need I have!
Amen!

Note: To new readers:
Cookie Jar Sweet Memories (CJSM) derives from
a 50th anniversary from our girls consisting of a
cookie jar stuffed with 365 "memories" from our lives.
I undertook to write the story of each event for the blog.

Day 157

If something smelled bad, Becky would hold her
Nose and say, “Piggy in my nose…Smells like money!”

Beth was our reserved, quiet “seen, not heard”; Becky was our “shot-in-the-dark”!
Each is beautiful and of high intelligence with grace and passion, filled with life and love.
Once, our family came into possession of several oil wells; not the “gusher”-type, but, still oil.
Becky hated any foul odor and made no beans about it, she held her nose and said, “Piggy in my nose…” As she matured to age 3, she became cognizant that the “smelly” oil wells provided money for bills and “goodies” so she quickly added a codicil to her axiom ”smells like money!”
We still had to “work” for a living---well, sort of…at least for this recalcitrant rogue.
Oh! I “work”!? At---having “fun”…playing Santa Claus dispensing “Happiness” to others.
Becky would go into tears anytime we saw a farm truck taking stock to market; in reality, she sure enough had no trouble enjoying a tasty “ham” sandwich. Didn’t we all?

Day 156

Chocolate malt and French fries

When you seclude your family to an 1880’s-type farmstead eleven miles from the civilization of a village, any trip to town becomes an event full of adventure! Life is, indeed, what you make of it! I have actually come to believe this truth (which I’ve always known): Attitude directs!
Lady Candy seemed to always draw the “running” necessities to fetch one thing or another.
Oh! She never complained---about…anything. I sincerely hope I did not take advantage!?
She and her sidekick, Becky, gladly took the truck to run some or another errand into town.
Then, one day, the two rapscallions let it slip: they raided McDonald’s for fries and a malt!
This delicacy sustained them on their way home as they shared the treat.
Hmm! I wonder where Beth was? Probably at the school---or…in the corner of the back seat!

Thoughts & Day 155 CJSM

Patient Love tolerates “Free will”-thought:

Day 155

Easter rides on old Lady down to the sprig

Becky was just three that Easter; the next day, I packed a picnic lunch of colored Easter eggs, balony sandwiches and two pieces of “lamb” cake hand-made in an antique mold, cached the goodies in our canvass saddle bags, saddled up Commander and Little Lady placing a 30’ lead rope around her neck and we mounted up, off on a life-memory adventure.
Becky had good balance but I kept a wary eye on her as we traipsed along our route through the woods down yonder towards the big creek taking a turn to the east along a small tributary which led to the “spring” where we dismounted and enjoyed our lunch-treat.
The spring was a natural heavy-flow coming out from under the bluff above; Lady Candy’s uncle Warren allowed how the opening had been much larger when her had been a kid some fifty years earlier and he would take a rowboat back into the abyss. The flow was still plenty good in my day, but, the bottom had silted in, somewhat, and while one could easily determine a “cave”-remnant, only about a foot of clearance remained. I bet ole Warren showed that natural phenomenon to many a pretty young thing in his own day!? Yeah! I just bet! Hope so!
Becky and I chatted away as we indulged our appetites on the delicious food-fare. She still laughs at the “best” part of our sojourn: We tossed colored egg shells into the water at the spring.
Usually, the entire family shared the adventures; that event just happened to Becky and me.

Thoughts & Day 154 CJSM

Raging storm:

Ragged wind-wild tore at the tattered curtain but the
old woman managed to close-tight the window before
evil-tempered nature could extinguish candle-warm flame

Day 154

Mushroom hunts

We made our own fun times with the simple ingredients of life with Family-Love!
I learned as a kid, from the very beginning, the importance of values-practiced evolving into  sacred virtues-lived; we prospered without “money” taking solace from the humble things of life.
My grandparents; farm was a refuge from the “insanity” of hectic “modern” life in the ’50’s and -60’s when I was a sprout; but, things were “normal” way back in the day---not like now!?
Faith! Family! Freedom! Were instilled into my psyche by example which led to a conclusion of Independent-Individual “Grace” which dictated decisions based on Praise! Honor! Glory!
Oh! Do not mis-understand, this rebel, rascal, rogue, rapscallion was no saint; ole St. Peter will have a hefty sheaf of papers when I check in (or---out) as the case is still to be determined. I once had a dream that I had died and approached the Pearly Gates; the saintly Peter passed a myriad plethora of “saints” in front of me as I nervously awaited my “judgment”. Most had a short hearing with only several sheets of pure white paper reviewed by the gate-keeper.
As I walked up, front and center, he had only a single white, slightly dingy, paper for me, but, he had a tall stack of “black” reports---I felt doomed and remorseful…fortunately, I woke up!
When that scenario comes galloping upon my wretched soul in reality? Well!? I sincerely hope to fare much better than I did in that ridiculous nightmare!? Hope springs “eternal”? Hmm?
So? Mushroom hunting brought my “kid”-years family closer together and so I naturally tried to pass on the tradition to my progeny---with valued success…Mother Nature has always been kind to me. My writing reflects my love and admiration of nature---I humble-Pray!...Amen!
One fine Sunday morning, while Lady Candice had the girls at church and Sunday School for the benefit of their souls and spirit after a long week with ole “Dad” corrupting their religion, I strolled out across the driveway and on down to the rock bottom creek to try to find some Morel mushrooms as it was early spring and the fungi was delicious food fare. And---Bonanza!
I found a patch of big, yellow “sponges” on a grassy slope in the May sunshine of morning.
Fifty-some delicacies awaited harvesting! But, I went back to the house to wait for the girls.
When they, at long last, returned from religious instruction, I casually suggested that they change into “old” clothes and we take a jaunt to the woods for mushroom hunting. Becky agreed.
I impatiently waited for her to oblige my clothes-changing request; finally, we were off.
I “led” little Becky to the site of “Golden-splendor” in the warm morning sun---Wow!
What a fantastic treat as she “discovered” all those tasty morsels! I was even more excited!
She still hunts the little delicacies and is quite the outdoorsman (woman); Beth, too.
Their children have delighted us with thirty years of excitement and adventure. Just Great!
Maybe I ain’t much on erudite sophistication; I sure enough have enjoyed the journey! Amen!
And---that girl could always, and, still can…find more mushrooms than me!? Hmm!?
Becky runs through the woods like an agile whitetail (and, she has Great vision).

Thoughts & Day 153 CJSM

Winter-bite:

River bottom sloughs blue-white frozen tight;
North-wind to howl its Joyous lonesome-fright;
critters munch summer’s hay stored from loft above;
Lazy-I in rocker aside the toasty fire to reminisce.

Candy and her Ziploc bags---
She would have had Beth and Becky
In one…if she could have

Lady Candice Leah is one of those “neat and orderly” types; I appreciate that attribute!
I once allowed to a dear friend who asked me what she was like that living with an angel was very much like living in a “display” home where everything was “perfect”. And, it’s true.
She just cannot tolerate anything less than immaculate; her house is---spotless…always!
Do not lay anything down put it away---properly! Or, Candy will remove it…forever!
She has a knack for cleanliness---everything has a place…everything in its place! Amen!
Oh? The “Plastic-bag” levity? The girls concluded that Mom would have had them in a plastic bag, if, she could have. I took that humorous tease as a compliment for her---so…did she!

Ah! Cookie Jar Sweet “…cleanliness…Godliness…” Memories!
